Short Biography

Andrea Moscariello holds an MSc in Geological Sciences at the University of Turin (Italy) and a PhD from the University of Geneva (Switzerland).

After a Post Doc at the US Geological Survey in Denver, Andrea joined Shell UK E & P in 1997 working as geologist first in development and then exploration projects in the North Sea. From 2002 until 2005 Andrea was subsurface business consultant within Hydrocarbon Maturation Team in Shell E&P International and worked on several high-profile projects ranging from new venture set up, exploration and hydrocarbon maturation of both green and brown fields in NW Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Asia, China, South America and the Gulf of Mexico. In 2004, Andrea was appointed global technical expert for clastic reservoirs in the Shell Technical Center for Integrated Reservoir Modelling.

In October 2007 he joined SGS Horizon E&P consultancy firm as Reservoir Geology Manager where was responsible for E&P subsurface projects worldwide. In 2008 was appointed Managing Director of the SGS Horizon office in Aberdeen and later Business Development and Technical Director of the main office in The Hague. In July 2010, Andrea funded Earth Resources B.V. providing expert geological subsurface consultancy to the energy industry. Since 2000, Andrea has been active in Research and Development activity in Petroleum Geology and Engineering subjects maintaining strict collaborative links with stimulating and innovative Academic environments.  Andrea was visiting lecturer at the University of Cambridge, UK (1998 – 2008) and six years as Assistant Professor at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands (2006-2011).

Since March 2011 Andrea is Full Professor at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and Head of the Geo-Energy Reservoir Geology and Basin Analysis group.

Andrea is an active member of several international professional and academic organisations. He has been past assessor of Grant-in-Aid of the AAPG, Associate Editor of Sedimentology/IAS and presently active member of the AAPG and EAGE Research Committee. Since 2012 Andrea has been part of the AAPG Leadership Team for the Europe Region, and since 2016 part of the board of the SASEG (Swiss Association of Energy Geo-scientist).

Andrea has authored and co-authored more than 120 scientific research articles and technical reports.
